Graduate student Brooke Abrams co-presented "Health Implications of Current NM Patterns of Patient-Provider Racial and Ethnic Concordance" at the New Mexico Public Health Association's 2017 Annual Conference. She presented with Dr. Kate Cartwright and Dr. Nick Edwardson, two Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Center for Health Policy (CHP) at UNM Senior Fellows. She also presented with RWJF CHP Dissertation Fellow Estela Vasquez Guzman. Brooke is is RWJF CHP Doctoral Fellow.
The presentation used new data from the 2016 Social Determinants of Health in NM Survey conducted by the RWJF Center for Health Policy at UNM Fellows to explore racial & ethnic concordance between patients and providers in NM & related health outcomes using bivariate & multivariate analyses. The findings have implications for social determinants affecting quality of care as well as for the need for educational & professional development investments in health care professionals of color.
