This month's issue of "Degrees", a national digital magazine published by Pearson Education, features a "Campus Visit" spotlight on the University of New Mexico. The magazine highlights the university as "a center of Hispanic culture, architecture and learning – including a Political Science Department that is championing the study of Latino political trends" (UNM Newsroom).

"Degrees" sat down with political science professor Dr. Gabriel Sanchez as part of the feature. In his interview, Dr. Sanchez stressed the importance of mentorship to student success, especially in the case of UNM. Dr. Sanchez serves as a mentor to a number of students, including the PhD students of color that are fellows of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy. By offering financial, academic, and professional support, the RWJF helps graduating minority students get placed at prestigious institutions like the State University of New York or Stanford.
