ABQ 2nd Judicial Court Visit

Please join the Political Science Law Advisory Council as we tour the 2nd Judicial District Court of Albuquerque on Thursday May 1, 2:30-5:00p. The department of Political Science is providing a free roundtrip UNM shuttle service that will depart from the Duck Pond turnaround at 2:45p and return to the same stop around 5:00p.

The group will be guided by Judge Courtney Weaks, a criminal judge with the Second Judicial District Court. She will show attendees the state district court for the County of Bernalillo that includes the criminal, civil, and family law courts. Judge Weaks handles felony level criminal cases and will take the group around the building showing us how the court works, what courtrooms are like and even what happens beyond the public access. LAC Board member and attorney Nick Davis will also be there to speak about his experiences practicing and trying cases in the courthouse.
- Visitors MAY NOT bring their cell phones or other electronic devices into the court (they should be left on campus or bus).
- The following items are also not allowed in the court house building:
Knives of any type and size, Firearms, Ammunition, Razors or blades, Pepper spray, mace or chemical gasses, Stun guns, Explosive devices, Alcohol, Drugs, Metal objects that could be used as weapons (nail files, knuckles, picks, forks, scissors, tweezers, etc.), Bats, clubs or kubaton sticks, Handcuff keys, Box cutters, or Any other devices or objects deemed a security risk by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department.
