Title: AI Agents for Social Science Research
Abstract: How do AI agents change the way social scientists do research? This hands-on workshop introduces AI agents—tools that don't just suggest code but execute multi-step research workflows on your computer, observe the results, and iterate. Unlike chatbots, agents can explore forgotten datasets, run statistical models, produce publication-ready figures, and draft results sections, all from a single natural-language prompt. I demonstrate these capabilities live with real research data, covering quantitative analysis, qualitative thematic analysis, and interactive survey experiment design. Participants then try the tools themselves on structured exercises. The workshop closes with a discussion of what these tools mean for our field: as the cost of execution collapses across the research pipeline, I argue that ideas, taste, fieldwork, and human judgment become more valuable, not less. No programming experience is required.
