Title: News Access and Political Accountability

Abstract: How do changing news environments affect political engagement, government accountability and democratic health? Researchers continue to grapple with this question. Focusing primarily on changes occurring in local news environments, our research examines how local news deserts, and other local news declines such as reductions in local newspaper market penetration and reporting capacity, affect voting behavior, polarization, and behavior among political elites.
