Biography:

Alex Severson is a Senior Research Scientist I at, and Deputy Director of, the Center for Applied Research and Analysis (CARA) housed within the Institute for Social Research at UNM. Prior to joining CARA in 2020, Alex received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Florida State University with research centered on public opinion, public policy, behavioral economics, and political psychology. In his time at CARA, Alex has completed process and outcome evaluations of the Department of Behavioral Health Services' Behavioral Health Initiative-funded Peer Case Management program, Education and Training program, Mobile Crisis Team program, and Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program and has also evaluated the predictive validity of the New Mexico Corrections Department's inmate custody classification risk assessments. Alex's peer-reviewed work has appeared in The Journal of Experimental Political Science, Social Science Quarterly, and State Politics and Policy Quarterly
